First Impression | L'oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation

L'oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation review

Hello lovelies! Today I am doing a highly requested post, a first impression on the L'oreal True Match Lumi Cushion foundation. The whole cushion foundation trend, I believe, started in Asia, but it has been making its way to the US. I was very excited when I first heard about it a few months ago, so when I saw it in stores I was lucky enough to find a sealed foundation in my shade. This foundation is a little pricey, around $15, depending where you buy it. I would definitely recommend trying to use a coupon like at Ulta.

I just want to preface by saying this is not a full review, it's more of a first impression. I've only used this 3-4 times, so I can only give me current thoughts on it.

What is this product?

The whole idea behind this is that the foundation is in a compact form, drenched in a very soft sponge. It feels is very light weight and thin, similar to their Lumi foundation in a bottle. You can view the pictures below and you will see when you open it there is a sponge, and then there is another cover you open to reveal the product.

When trying out this foundation I had a lot of fun trying it out with different application methods. It comes with a puff which is definitely usable, but I find it can look patchy because it is hard to get a blended look. I really loved using this with my flat top kabuki, my Sigma F80. One tap into the product and I had enough for one section of my face, and the brush just allowed for a much more seamless and easier application.

I would love to try this with a beauty blender, so if any of you have tried this with a beauty blender, please leave me your thoughts!

Finish + Coverage

As the name suggests this is a luminous finish foundation. But, what I love about it is that it gives a nice glowy-dewy-finish. I don't believe this looks oily or shimmery on my skin.

BUT as someone with oilier skin, this 100% needs to be set with a power. Even though I am more oily, I still find that I can use this, and love it! I can't get away with this without a powder, and I do need to touch up with blotting sheets or powder during the day.

The coverage with this is fantastic! It's more light-medium, but I find it covers almost anything I need it to cover. With one layer I feel I have a pretty good lightweight base that covers up most of my imperfections. But this is amazing for layering because it's so thin, and it never looks cakey.

Shade Selection

The shade selection for this product is not so great. I have the shade N2, which I was very nervous about. I think this matches me okay. I think it's a hair too dark, but it's definitely doable. The way this foundation works, similar to other L'oreal foundations is that they have W (warm), N (neutral) and C (cool) shades. I am more neutral toned, so I opted for the lightest N shade, N2. If you are fairer than me, than finding a shade might be really difficult.

Overall

I have really been enjoying this foundation! Since I have oilier skin I will have to test this out more, but right now in the drier winter months, I am really liking it. The feel of it is very smooth, it looks really natural on the skin and it feels very lightweight.

    1. It's definitely worth a try! But it's a very similar formula to foundation in a tube

  2. I am so intrigued by cushion foundations! My skin is oily too but it definitely has been drier recently since it's so cold. I should try it out! :)

  3. Glad to know how this works on oilier skin. My skin gets oily throughout the day in my t-zone. I have used the regular lumi foundation, but my husband always used to ask why I was so shiny. He didn't like it. I wonder if this is the same formula???

  4. This is such an interesting product but I think there would be so much bacteria in the pot before I finish it it would put me off using it!

    1. Ohh I never thought of that! Atleast you won't be dipping your fingers in this, only a sponge or brush!

  5. I loved this one but it made me so oily! I have they make a semi matte version like the pro-matte.

  6. I'm actually quite the opposite of you - my skin is pretty dry (all year round) so maybe this would be ideal for my skin type without having to use a setting powder. I'll check it out!

  15. Great review! I am about to post a review of mine really soon but I love it so much already. I even found a colour match for my super pale skin which has never happened with L'Oreal Foundations. I love the dewy finish of this one too.

  17. I've tried a cushion foundation sample in the past and loved it but was disappointed to find out how pricey the full-sized was. I'm glad there's a more affordable, drugstore version now! Thanks for sharing!
