Daily Dupe | NYX vs. Benefit

Back in the day, (AKA three years ago), I was obsessed with Benefit's liquid products. By that, I mean, Highbeam (pink liquid highlight) and Chacha Tint (a pink liquid blush/cheek stain). I've only ever owned the sample sizes which I got in kits, because these minis last a really long time. As I was going through my makeup collection the other day I noticed that the NYX Born to Glow Liquid Illuminator was very similar to Benefit's Highbeam. So I thought, could this be a dupe? I have my answer, but continue reading to find out more!

After testing out both of these products, I have to say they are extremely similar. From my swatches you can see they are basically the same- they are both a light pink liquid highlight. The main difference is in packaging. Highbeam comes in almost like a nail polish bottle, so it has a brush applicator. This makes it super easy to apply to the tops of the cheekbone. While the NYX Illuminator comes in a squeeze tube, which can be messier because you would most likely put it on your finger.

The Benefit swatch looks more sheet because with a brush I was able to control how much product I applied. But with the NYX Illuminator, a big dot came out when I squeezed the bottle so it deposited more product.

Overall, after testing out the shades and consistency of both of these products, I have to say they are a very close dupe. The NYX Illuminator is $7, while a bottle of Highbeam is 26. These are both beautiful products that you can use to give your skin a dewy look, but I personally would prefer the NYX one just for the price!

Have you tried either the NYX Illuminator or Benefit Highbeam? Do you think it's a dupe?

  3. That's a really close dupe! I wonder how Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Moonstone or Opal compares.

  7. These are so close, definitely dupe status. You're right that the benefit small sizes last forever, I had a small high beam a while back and I felt like no matter how much I used it just never ran out.

  8. I have a sample of Benefit's High Beam and I used to use it all the time, but I just kind of forgot about it. I guess that is the way with beauty lovers! The NYX illmuninator is definitely similar and both are beautiful. x

  11. Wow, they're nearly the same product! A makeup tip, squeeze a pea size amount of highlighter to your palm, lightly pick up some with your ring finger (it gives the lightest coverage), dab excess slightly of on a clean slate of your palm before dabbing lightly, this will give you a more build-able glow :)
