My 5 Blogging Mistakes

You may have read many, many, blogging mistakes post. I've been blogging for a few years now, and I've found that as people become more established with their blog they like to share lessons they have learned over the years. For me, there are 5 mistakes I think I made when I started blogging. I am not here to tell you that these are mistakes you might be making too, it's my own personal thoughts. Only you can decide for yourself after gaining experience in the blogging world what your "mistakes" are.

1. I posted for the sake of posting. I had this idea in my head that I had to post every single day. Sometimes I would even post twice a day! I would post stupid things that did not benefit me or the reader. Also, once I developed a routine I no longer had time to post every day. Instead, I've learned that my blog runs best when I post 3x a week- Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday. I have enough time to create useful and informative posts.

2. I didn't have a clear layout. Having a clear and clean layout is very important for me. When I visit my blog I want to see something I am proud of and enjoy reading. I also didn't have a mobile layout! Which it super important these days because many readers check out my blog on the go. I only recently invested in a layout (with mobile!) , and now I am super happy with the way my blog looks. If you guys are looking for a new layout I highly recommend checking out Etsy, there are many creators who are selling very affordable themes.

3. My pictures sucked. When I first started blogging I had no idea how to take pictures. I kinda knew about the natural light thing, but the looks of my pictures were dull and boring. Only recently I've learned the importance of a clean background and props, and how it totally transforms your photos. I also did not edit my pictures before I posted them- huge mistake on my part! I always make sure to use Snapseed on my phone or Be Funky on my computer to edit my photos before I post them. Let me know if you want a full in depth post about blog photography!

4. I didn't proofread my posts. This is a huuuuuuuge mistake I made. I was so quick to put out posts that when I went back later, after posting them, there were spelling mistakes everywhere. It looks awful. The whole point of a blog is the writing, and if you can't even take the time to spellcheck and proofread your posts, the readers will leave and never return. This was definitely something I've had to learn, and now I always make sure to read over my posts 2-3 times before I hit the "publish" button.

5. I wasn't sharing enough. After I published a post I would expect it to get a million views and comments. But something like that doesn't happen over night. It takes a lot of sharing and hard work to get views and comments on your blog. I would only share my new posts to Twitter once and that was it. But now I have Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Google+. I share on all of these platforms, I also make sure to share my old posts so they don't get forgotten. My views, comments and engagement has really gone up once I started sharing on many social media platforms.

  2. Fab list! Every single one I could relate to! I only post twice a week but I still never post just for the sake of it - where as I used to and I feel like it comes across so badly!

  4. Lovely post, it makes me think back to my posts and I'm the same way. I've been trying to be more patient with my posts too. Instead of rushing them I need to start proof reading more.

  7. I am so ashamed to admit that I am still guilty of a lot of these, promotion can be so time consuming and sometimes I feel really annoying. I read somewhere that blogging should be 20% content and 80% promotion, and I am really going to try and stick to that. I have to figure out how to use Pinterest, because every blogger I know loves it! Great post, hopefully I'll stop being guilty of these soon. . . thanks for sharing x

  8. I used to post every single day as well, I felt like I had to constantly put content out there but I've learnt the meaning of 'quality over quantity'. It's so important! I've also learnt so much about photography! x

  9. I TOTALLY get you on the photography front - I had no set size for my pictures, didn't edit them, paid no attention to the background etc. They were horrendous! I'm still getting used to sharing posts on various platforms, not just twitter and I'm hoping that Pinterest soon starts really paying off for me!

  12. I loved reading this post,
as a new blogger myself I am already seeing certain mistakes I am making but I guess it is a learning process. My biggest one is not knowing how to take pictures at the right angle!

  14. I feel like I've made a lot of these mistakes and am slowly improving them. I always manage to forget at least one social media platform when I'm sharing a post, especially pinterest!

  16. Same, my biggest mistake is the 1st and the 5th. I used to blog whenever I feel like it but after I scheduled it, I noticed a change, small but it's there.

  17. I found that posting everyday was not for me either! I now post three times a week and I feel like it gives me more time to focus on improving my content. Your photos are beautiful by the way :)

  20. Totally guilty of doing all of these. I think the biggest one I'm guilty of now is that I don't share enough on social media, and I need to develop a more consistent blogging schedule.
