I'm sure, like many of you, I have so many mascaras opened at the same time. In my opinion, mascaras are the products that go the fastest. So I am constantly opening and trying new mascaras. Currently, in my opened-mascara-collection, I have a mix of high end and drugstore mascaras, and I also have some primers/top coats I am currently using. I also thought I would mix up this post a little and divide the mascaras by the Good, Bad and Ugly. Some of these mascaras are my holy grail, while others I will definitely be trashing after writing this post. Keep reading for all the details!

The Good

The first mascara, and definitely my favorite, is the Benefit Roller Lash. This is my #1 holy grail mascara, like I do not know what I would do if I do not have this on hand. I have a full review here you can check out, but in a nutshell, this is the perfect mascara because it curls, lengthens, volumizes, and it doesn't flake during the day.

I also use a different mascara for my bottom lashes, so the mascara I have been loving for that is the L'oreal Telescopic Shocking Extensions. I use the waterproof version so I know for sure it won't transfer to my undereye. I love this for my bottom lashes because the wand is very thin so it really gets to, and lengthens all of my bottom lashes.

Another one of my favorite high-end mascaras is the Tarte Lights Camera Lashes. This does a really nice job at lengthening and volumizing my lashes. But unlike with the Roller Lash, if I want a nice curl, I definitely have to use an eyelash curler.

My favorite drugstore mascara is the Maybelline Lash Sensational. I love this for a couple of reasons! This does a really night job at lengthening and curling, but I find it can get a little clumpy. But this mascara is my #1 go-to when I know I'll be sweating and need a mascara that will stay. This might not be a waterproof formula, but it's like glue to your lashes until you go to take it off.

When I love my using my regular mascaras but I need it to have better lasting power, I love topping it with the NYX Proof It Mascara Top Coat. I find this top coat does an amazing job at really water-proofing all of my mascaras. The trick though is to make sure you use it once your mascara is still wet, otherwise this will make your mascara look clumpy.

A new favorite mascara is the Too Faced Better Than Sex. This may only be a sample size, but I definitely plan on buying a full size once this is finished. I love how fluffy and full this make my lashes look. I am not one to wear false lashes, but I think this definitely does give a false-lash effect.

The Bad

A new mascara/mascara top coat I'm trying is the L'oreal Voluminous Primer. I've used this a couple of times, but honestly, haven't really noticed a difference. You put this on before your mascara and it lengthens your lashes with these little white fibers. I find mascaras do a good job at hiding all the white, but I don't think this really helps the performance of any mascara. I'll keep trying though, maybe I have to find the best combination.

I got a sample of the Urban Decay Perversion a while ago to try, but it never really 'WOWed' me. I found that this didn't do much for my lashes in terms of volume and length. That's something I could deal with, but I found that it didn't take long for this to transfer to my undereye without doing much activity (like sweating). I know this isn't a waterproof formula, but neither are many of other mascaras, but I've never experienced a problem like I have with this one. Sorry, UD but I won't be buying the full size of this!

The Ugly

It's so sad to me because the Benefit They're Real used to be my holy grail mascara. But with this mini size I have, this stuff hurts! I can't remember if this happened with the full size but the bristles are so hard and big, I am constantly hitting my eyeball and it's a pretty awful feeling. Safe to say, this is being trashed. But on the bright side, I find the Roller Lash mascara gives basically the same effect, and it looks like the same formula.

Very similar to the Benefit They're Real, the Tarte Tarteist Lash Paint also really hurts my eyes. I think I got this as a 100 point perk at Sephora, and I was super excited to try it. But I like my mascara application to be a pain-free experience, I will also be trashing this.

That concludes my mascara drawer roundup! Let me know in the comments if you like this 'Good, Bad & Ugly' style posts!

  5. I've tried a few of these, mainly the ones that you love. I've been loving Roller Lash and Lash Sensational for a while now, but I recently repurchased They're Real after not owning it for about a year. I'm hoping I'll still love it as I did. I have an unopened Better Than Sex to try because I've heard great things but don't want to open it just yet as I have so many that are already open.

  6. I still haven't gotten around to purchasing rollerlash, my mini they're real is my holy grail at the moment! Then again I don't get too close to the root of my lashes with the brush (I'm terrified of poking myself in the eye)

  8. I totally agree with you about the Urban Decay Perversion...its just meh to me. I also love Maybelline lash sensational, but I have been loving Covergirl Supersizer Fibers. The brush is amazing and the formula is good. It's really volumizing!

  9. Love posts like these! Glad I'm not the only one with a ton of opened mascaras, although mine are mostly drugstore and a few higher end samples. I really want to try the Better than Sex mascara! Shame about the Tarteist one, I've heard mixed reviews on it.

  12. I think I must be the only person who hasn't tried Roller Lash - I need it in my life! I also love the Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes and Maybelline Lash Sensational - both solid mascaras! Unfortunately Better Than Sex didn't work for me, as it flaked like crazy (I tried two different tubes, same deal!). xx

  13. Roller Lash is great, but, yeah, They're Real is really a pain. It always left me with panda eyes :( My favorite mascaras are all from Japanese drugstores, they're cheap yet work like wonder!

  14. Currently I've been loving Benefit's They're Real (I have the full size, so it might be better?) and Maybelline The Falsies! Also, I've been wanting to try Benefit's Roller Lash!

  15. We have very similar tastes on mascaras. I love my Roller Lash too, I can't believe it does actually curl my miniature lashes a bit. I used to looove the Tarte Lights Camera Lashes one but I haven't repurchased it because I have a lot of mascaras at the moment, but it's also one of my all time faves. A little tip with Perversion is that you can use it on top of a waterproof mascara to really add drama, I've been wearing it on top of Maybelline The Rocket and I keep getting compliments on my lashes. I think this one just works when you have a solid base. xx
