Why I'm Returning the Cult Favorite Foundation | Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation

Why I'm Returning the Cult Favorite Foundation | Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation Review
As I'm sitting down to write this post my heart is literally breaking. Everyone in the beauty community raves over the Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation. I purchased this beauty a few months ago from Ulta with a 20% code, so I got an insanely good deal on it. Want to hear why I'll be returning it? Keep reading!
Before I explain why I'm giving it back, let me explain to you why I love it. Everyone claims this foundation is long lasting and looks flawless on the skin, and I couldn't agree more. I have very oily skin, I love how full coverage and beautiful this looked on the skin. It also lasted all day with my usual primer and powder routine.

Here is where the problems began: the shade! I have the lightest shade, 1C1, and this is way too dark for my winter-pale skin. At first, I was hoping to make it work, but it's just too damn dark. For reference, I am shade 112/115 in the Maybelline Fit Me Foundations and Y225 in the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation. I'm so disappointed that a beautiful foundation like this from a very large makeup company, like Estee Lauder, doesn't make their best selling foundation is shades that can work for everyone. Therefore, I sadly have to return this, even though I love the way it looks.

UPDATE: So, I went back to Ulta to return this, and when she rang it up I only paid $18 for it (!!!). This is originally a $39 foundation! That price is way too good, so I decided to keep it. The woman at Ulta recommended I try the NYX white foundation mixer to try and make it work. I've used it twice, and although it makes the process longer, adding the white helps, and I can officially make it work for my skin tone. I also didn't find that the NYX foundation mixer changed the formula or finish of the foundation.

Have you tried the Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation? What are your thoughts? Are you pale like me, does this work for you?

  1. I use Double Wear and I'm super pale. My shade is 1N1 - Ivory Nude. I originally thought I'd need 1C1 but when the woman at the store put both shades on my face, the 1N1 worked well and the 1C1 was way too pink and was darker.

You can also try The Body Shop's lightening drops - 1 drop makes a foundation 2 shades lighter!

  2. I've always liked the sound of this foundation and I'm pretty sure I'd like it! Might have to pick it up next time I'm in Debenhams! X
