An Everything-Proof Liquid Lipstick that Lasts for 18 Hours? | Lipsense by Senegence in "First Love" Review*

Can This Last 18 Hours? | Lipsense by Senegence in "First Love" Review | LipSense in 'First Love'* ($25), LipSense Gloss* ($20) and LipSense Ooops! Remover*
As a beauty blogger, I am always interested in trying new things. I was offered to try Lipsense through a blogger promotion/collaboration group on Facebook, and after doing some research I accepted the opportunity. I was contacted by Sherry who offered to send me the Lipsense system* in any color I choose in exchange for my thoughts/review on a blog post. I've never heard of Lipsense, but I did my research and found that this is supposed to be an 18-hour wear lip product, and I knew it was something I had to put to the test!

What is Lipsense?

Lipsense is a product from Senegence that claims to be a waterproof, kiss-proof, smudge-proof, budge-proof, long-wearing liquid lipstick. The color can last anywhere between 4-18 hours. They do not contain wax or led, and are cruelty-free. Sounds perfect right?

This product also contains cosmetic grade denatured alcohol which means: the product is thinner than water, prevents bacteria build-up in the tube, and keeps your lips nice and smooth. When you first apply the product you feel a slight tingling, and this is because of the denatured alcohol.

In my package, I received LipSense in 'First Love'* ($25),  LipSense Gloss* ($20) and LipSense Ooops! Remover* ($10). All three of these products come out to a total of $55, which can be a lot for a liquid lipstick. Also, all of these have a standard doe-foot applicator.

There are 50 shades of this product, and you can also purchase a matte or gloss to top it off, and there is also the Ooops! remover to help you remove the product from your lips. Since there are so many shades and the product is so thin, you can combine different shades to get your perfect lipstick shade.

Application process:

  • Clean lips- exfoliate and hydrate lips, but make sure your lips are dry when you apply it
  • Shake bottle to activate
  • Lipsense layering process- This product works best when layered. Apply one thin layer to your lips, let it dry, apply a second coat, let it dry, and apply the third and final coat
  • Keep your lip apart during the entire process
  • Once the third layer is dry, apply the gloss or matte top coat to set it
  • You can reapply the gloss or matte top coat throughout the day to maintain the color and staying power

Now that you understand what the product is and how it works, time for my review!

When I first opened the tube, I noticed the product smelled like alcohol and not sweet smelling like other liquid lipsticks. I also noticed that when I dipped the wand back into the tube, the product was overflowing a little bit, which caused the rim of the bottle to get messy.

The color I chose was "First Love", which I would describe as a nude. With the first layer, I noticed how thin this product is. It almost melts into your lips and feels like nothing is there. But I did notice the slight tingly feeling, which initially made me nervous because I have sensitive lips, but it went away within a few seconds. I followed the application process by letting it dry, and working until I had three layers and added on the gloss on top.

The entire time I wear this product I notice that it didn't feel sticky, and I hardly felt it throughout the day. They weren't kidding with these claims, this stuff really sets! I would say that the entire system with the gloss, through eating and drinking, lasted me 9 hours, with some touch ups with the gloss. Which I wouldn't say is bad!

However, because of the cosmetic grade denatured alcohol, I found my lips were drying and peeling the first few days I used this. This is because the product is working to clean up all the stuff on your lips, which will eventually leave your lips smooth and the product will appear and apply much smoother. This made me nervous at first, but after reading some reviews online, I saw that this is a normal experience.

Removing the product wasn't difficult either. Since it claims to be long wearing I was nervous, but the LipSense Ooops! Remover* did a great job at removing everything easily. I didn't try any other methods to remove it, but I read online that other people used soap and water and that worked just as well.

Final Thoughts

So, is Lipsense worth? I would say it depends. It depends on how much you love liquid liquids and feel like you need a long lasting product. I didn't put this to the full 18-hour test, but it can last you throughout a normal day. It also depends on how much time you have to apply it because this system requires time, practice, and patience. But, I can definitely say that this product has amazing staying power! I saw videos of people rubbing their lips with their finger and no product transferred. I tried this experiment, and the only thing that got on my finger was the gloss- there was absolutely no color transfer!

The price can also be a turnoff because $55 for a system like this might be a lot for some people. But, once you have the top coat and remover, it's only $25 for the actual colors which is a normal high-end price for a liquid lipstick. Also, considering the staying power and quality, the price isn't insane.

Will I be buying more shades? Probably not because I'm not someone who needs a bullet-proof system like this, but I love the color "First Love' and will definitely be using this for special events when I need my lip color to last.

  1. I don't know that I would need something that lasts this long, but I'm sure it's great for some people! I've seen some good reviews and some bad reviews of it but it's certainly intriguing x

  2. I've not really heard of lipsense before but we got a product in a subscription box which allows you to blend lipsticks and I actually love it!

  4. I've really tried to get into liquid lipsticks and i just haven't been able to! I wish their was a type of top coat you can apply over regular lipsticks to keep them on all day. I am so lazy when it comes to lipstick reapplication, after the second time I just give up haha. x

  5. lipsense does actually work but i feel like it is too pricey! thanks for your review and i followed on instagram, truly beautiful feed!

  6. I'm not that into liquid lipsticks so I'm not sure this would be for me, but that longevity is tempting as I hate having to reapply liquid lipstick!

  10. Love this honest review! I've never been able to find a long wearing lipstick that didn't totally dry my lips out.

  11. I've never heard of Lipsense before and $55 for lip products would typically make me recoil in horror but this sounds like such a great lip kit. Lip products have a habit of going all over the place whenever I'm wearing one so I really need something that is smudge proof. I'm slightly worried about it drying my lips out but I think I could forgive that so long as it doesn't end up all over my face.

  12. I'd not heard of this brand so was interested to read your review. Like you I'm not sure I'd need a lip product to be THAT heavy duty but it's good to know it exists nonetheless!

  13. I'm generally not fond of liquid lipsticks but this looks good.
