Makeup I Used to Love, and Now Hate | Throwback Thursday | Revisiting Old Blog Posts

This post is a little bit of a different review than what you're used to. Today I wanted to work backward and review some of my old blog posts. I think most of us try new products and may like them initially, but as time goes on our opinion changes. But sometimes our readers don't hear about that later on. So as I was doing a blog clean up, I reviewed some old posts and I'll share my thoughts on some makeup I loved initially (and still do), and some that I've hated and since then have trashed or given away. (Also side note, ignore the "September 2017" in the picture. I was trying to create a throwback theme.)

Covergirl 3-in-1 First Impression

Without a doubt, I can say that this foundation has become my go-to foundation since doing this review. I loved it when I first tried it, and I continue to use it today. I think I have repurchased this foundation at least 5 times, which is very impressive considering I don't usually finish foundations. I find that this is one of the best drugstore foundations for every skin type because it's not dewy or overly mattifying. For my oily skin, I use good powder over this and I stay matte all day.

Colourpop Pressed Eyeshadow Quad

This is the second set of products that has been a big success for me. Since doing this review, I've since bought a 25 empty palette that I've completely filled with Colourpop shadows. I love the pigmentation and staying power of all the shadows I have. They have a beautiful range of colors and they are very inexpensive. This is a post I did later on with a full review of swatches.

Morphe Brushes | Are They Worth the Hype?

This is yet another success, Morphe brushes. Specifically their brushes I have been very impressed by. However, I want to make it clear that there are certain lines in their collection that are not as good as the others. For example, their brushes with the black bristles tend to shed a lot and very easily. They're white-haired brushes also smell so bad because they are not synthetic. But, their Elite brushes are some of my absolute favorite brushes and still inexpensive. I recommend reading reviews on specific brushes before making a purchase.

Colourpop Blush "Between the Sheets" Review

Okay, guys. This is when things go a little down-hill (or a lot). Later on, after doing this post I ended up trashing this blush and will probably never purchase another Colourpop blush again. I found that it took a lot of work to build up the color with my fingers, and no brush was able to properly pick up the color. I also found the blush got more sheer over time, almost like it was dried out. But I own their other pressed products, like shadows and highlighters, and haven't had that experience. So overall, I liked the product initially, but over time I became unimpressed and reached for other products first.

Kylie Lip Kit in Koko K

My last throwback review is the Kylie Lip Kit. My opinion on this has drastically changed. After some more testing, I became extremely unhappy with this. I did not like the color on my lips and I found that the product dried very easily. I also tried other Kylie cosmetics products, like other lip kits and glosses. Everything I tried has been sub-par, and I vowed I would never try another Kylie cosmetics product again. I find it to be extremely overpriced and nothing special. I know that is a little harsh, but I hope some of you out there feel the same way as me.

  1. Loved the idea of this post! I've often reviewed items and then much later changed my mind about how they work. Then I'll feel guilty thinking "I just gave this thing a good review and now I'm hating it!". But things are always changing and I find changes in my skin over time have a big effect on how my makeup applies and wears.
